To promote a more holistic approach to the analysis of complex biological systems, we invite plant and systems biologists of all research interests to the first International Symposium on Root Systems Biology in Taipei, Taiwan. This symposium will be hosted by the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology, Academia Sinica, and held on our campus from September 19 to 21, 2012. Roots have been used as a model to study both fundamental cellular processes and responses to environmental signals. The availability of genetic resources and sequenced genomes now allow us deeper insights into root biochemistry, development and function. Obtaining, integrating and analyzing this complex data, however, remains a major challenge in biology. This three-day event of lectures, posters and workshops will provide leading biologists, mathematicians, bioinformaticians and biotechnologists a platform to communicate recent advances in research technologies and data analysis and an opportunity to establish multilateral collaborations.
