Leadership Position for the DOE Systems Biology Knowledgebase (KBase)

Notice of Intent: DOE's Office of Biological and Environmental Research intends to post a position for a computational biologist to lead integrative computational biology and bioinformatics research efforts conducted within the Genomic Science Program ( http://genomicscience.energy.gov/index.shtml ). Qualified candidates will serve as an essential resource for the Office providing expert advice to fellow program managers on bioinformatics, metabolic engineering, systems biology modeling and simulation, data management, and computing infrastructure (including high-performance computing systems).

The position involves coordinative activities among different Program Offices within DOE's Office of Science and other Federal agencies engaged in computational approaches to advance biological research. The position also involves management of the DOE Systems Biology Knowledgebase (KBase) activity ( http://www.kbase.us/ ), a key enabling capability within the Genomic Science program, and coordinative interactions with the DOE National Scientific User facilities such as the Joint Genome Institute (http://www.jgi.doe.gov/) and the Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory (http://www.emsl.pnl.gov/emslweb/). This is an opportunity for qualified candidates to work with some of the world's foremost scientists and engineers in academia, the DOE National Laboratories and industry on DOE mission-relevant bioenergy and environmental research.

The announcement for this position will be posted in a few weeks on the USAJOBS website (https://www.usajobs.gov/). Unlike past hiring processes, this announcement will be posted for only 10 days. This will be a federal position at GS-14 or GS-15 level, depending upon qualifications, and the duty location will be in Germantown, Maryland. For questions about the position and/or recruitment process, please send an email to: todd.anderson@science.doe.gov.
